I Adopted Your Dog Today

I saw this picture posted on Dr. Karen Beckers Facebook page and being a rescue advocate myself, it instantly resonated with me.

As I scrolled through the comments I saw people writing their own versions about their pets! I love creative writing and am very passionate about rescue so it inspired me to write my own twist of the poem for my rescue dogs Gracie and Boomer.

I hope you enjoy!

Gracie

I adopted your dog today
The one who had a litter of 6 puppies
The one who was surrendered with 3 of them
Another surrendered a year later
I adopted your dog today
The one with a big smile
The one with a huge heart
The one who was confused
The one searching for love
I adopted your dog today
Did you know she has a bladder infection?
Did you know she should have been spayed?
Did you know she doesn’t trust and will bolt any chance she gets?
I adopted your dog today
Was she not cute enough to be kept?
Were the puppies cuter?
Was she a nuisance?
I adopted your dog today
I will give her a forever home no matter what
I will be patient with her
I will love her until the end
I adopted MY dog today
She is no longer yours
She is thankful for a new beginning
She is free

Boomer

I adopted your dog today
The one you surrendered
The one you had since a puppy
I adopted your dog today
The one who loves to cuddle
The one with so much personality
The one with endless love to give
I adopted your dog today
Did you know he is unsure of new people?
Did you know he needs some training?
Did you know he is anxious being left alone?
I adopted your dog today
Was he too much of a financial burden?
Did he have too much energy?
Were his behavioral issues too much to handle?
I adopted your dog today
I will give him a forever home no matter what
I will be patient with him through the training
I will love him until the end
I adopted MY dog today
He is no longer yours
He is thankful for a new beginning
He is free
